James H. FischleyWe announce with deep regret the passing of James H. Fischley (70), Patrol Plane Commander in VP-22 during the 1969-1972 timeframe. Jim was born on November 12, 1942 and died on March 20, 2013. He was raised in Cleveland Ohio and lived many years before his passing in Key Longboat, Florida.  He is survived by his wife Ginger of 33 years. He remained in the Navy Reserves and served at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville until retirement. Jim became an employee of Eastern Airlines in August 1972 and qualified as a Captain on several type aircraft before departing Eastern in March 1989. He Joined American Trans Air (ATA) in September 1989 and flew B-757 aircraft until November 2002.  Jim’s last trip for ATA was from Honolulu to Phoenix as a B-757 Captain. His wife Ginger, pictured above with Jim, was an Eastern Flight Attendant and an ATA Flight Attendant. Jim was highly respected and honored by his VP-22 crews (6 & 2) and we have amassed many wonderful memories of our dear friend “Fish”.  All those who had the honor of serving with Jim, especially those that flew with him in “harm’s way”, know they were blessed, both professionally and personally. Those remembrances of “Fish” and times gone by will remain secured deeply in our hearts as he soars far above the boundaries of this earth.

James H. Fischley2

It is with obvious sadness that I commemorate my father and his service to our country and the Navy. He was very proud of his service and loved reminiscing about his time with not only his contemporaries in the Navy but any service member who liked to talk.

He was born in Elgin Illinois in 1940. His father passed away when he was three and from then on he lived a somewhat rootless childhood, being shuffled from his mother to one set of grandparents or the other until he graduated from high school in Muskegon Michigan in 1958. He then joined the Navy, with boot camp in Chicago. His first duty station was at NAS Pensacola where he was attached to the crash crew, (and where I was born in 1960). He was promoted to AT3 and was discharged in 1961 whereupon he moved his family back up to Muskegon. Dad joined the reserves and was assigned to a reserve A-4 squadron.

In 1968 the Pueblo was taken by North Korea and his reserve squadron was activated and sent to NAS Alameda. Later that year, when his squadron was released from active duty, dad decided to stay in and was assigned as a radio operator on P-3’s with VP-22 at Barbers Point. Dad left VP-22 in 1972 and was attached to VR-21 as a radio operator on C118 transport aircraft. In 1975 he was assigned to Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD). Dad also was assigned for a stint with the Seabees in which he thoroughly enjoyed himself. He loved working with his hands in “the trades” and could fix anything. All of these various assignments took place at Barbers Point.

In early 1978, he reported to NATTC Memphis in Millington TN to attend AT “B” school for six months Later that year he and his family reported to NAS Sigonella where he was assigned as a radio operator for CINCSOUTH (Allied Forces Southern Europe) in the VIP C-118. Since dad was also known to be a very good cook, he also filled that duty “unofficially”. In 1981 Dad made chief and shortly thereafter he reported to NAMTRADET AT NAS Moffat Field. He did such a good job at CINCSOUTH that he was requested to return to Sigonella in 1983 working on the VIP C-118 aircraft as the radio operator and flight line CPO. He retired from the Navy in 1985 and subsequently stayed in Italy until 1991. He moved up to Washington State pursuing a new career as a baker and restauranteur and stayed there until his passing on 19 April 2017. He left behind his wife Pia, five children (4 sons, 1 daughter) and three grandchildren, all of whom he was very proud.

On Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, Jerry Dean Reddekopp, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 72. Jerry was born April 11, 1946, in Tillamook, OR to Dean and Loveona (Jean) Reddekopp.  On Oct. 3, 1969, he married Marty June Reedy. They raised three sons, David, Terry, and Timothy.
Jerry retired from the United States Navy in 1987 after twenty-two years of service. He was a Chief Petty Officer. During his time in active duty, Jerry served in several naval air squadrons as an anti-submarine warfare operator.  Working evenings and weekends, Jerry earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science. After the Navy, he worked for many years at Boeing Corp.
Jerry was involved in several veterans groups and other organizations and always flew the American flag proudly. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Dean. He is survived by his mother, Jean; his wife, Marty; his three sons, David, Terry, and Timothy; brothers, Wayne and Jeff; his sisters, Claudia and Deanna; and his eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Fair winds and following seas Husband, Father, Brother, and Grandpa. Our love follows you.
